Wacken Open Air

Wacken Open Air on Saksamaal Schleswig-Holsteini liidumaal Wackeni külas igal aastal toimuv heavy metal'i festival, mis sai alguse 1990. aastal.

Wacken Open Air 2009

Festivali algatasid Thomas Jensen ja Holger Hübner. Jensen on jäänud festivali korraldamise juurde siiani. Esialgu oli tegemist kohaliku rokkfestivaliga, kus esinesid vähesed saksa bändid. Aasta-aastalt kogus festival siiski tuntust juurde ja 1997. aastal oli seal esinenud ansamblite seas juba mitmeid rahvusvahelisi suurnimesid. Alates sellest ajast on festivalil esinejate hulk üha kasvanud ning 2009. aastal astus kolmel laval üles juba 77 bändi.

Esialgu kaks päeva kestnud festival on kasvanud kolmepäevaseks ja külastajate hulk on viimastel aastatel kasvanud üle 70 000. Festival on seega saanud väga populaarseks, 2009. aasta piletid müüdi välja juba 8 kuud enne selle algust. 2009. aastal korraldati lisaks põhifestivalile ka kaks kõrvalüritust: Wacken Rocks South ja Wacken Rocks Seaside, et pakkuda festivalil osalemise võimalust ka neile, kes Wackenisse piletit ei saanud. Kaks viimast üritust ei toimu aga mitte Wackenis, vaid vastavalt Baieris Rieden-Kreuthis ja Alam-Saksimaal Aurichis. Samuti peaks toimuma osafestival Wacken Rocks Brazil Brasiilias, kuid selle toimumine on määramata ajaks edasi lükatud.
