Medieval Unidentified Object fragment with textile imprint
Kirjeldus
English: Lead unidentified object fragment. About one quarter of a possibly circular plano-convex object with a broad [5mm] flat rim on its hollow back. This rim bears a group of three small dimples near one end. The clear imprints of a finely woven textile with its weave running in two directions appear within the hollow back. The front bears indistinct markings which include possibly moulded and circumferential parallel grooves and an impressed circle; patinated, with light recent scraping revealing grey metal. The form might qualify this as part of a brooch or badge, while the textile might relate either to a fabric enclosed within a container or pressed into the hollow with some force. The thickness and mass of the object are probably too great for this to be part of a hollow-cast ampulla, which both its form and external surface texture might otherwise suggest. Suggested date: possibly Medieval, 1200-1500

Diameter (inferred): 50mm, Width (as found): 22mm, Height (i.e. protrusion): 11.5mm, Thickness: 2.5mm, Weight: 18.62gms
