Martin Litchfield West

Martin Litchfield West (23. september 1937 London – 13. juuli 2015) oli Suurbritannia klassikaline filoloog. Ta oli Briti Akadeemia liige (FBA), Göttingeni Teaduste Akadeemia korrespondentliige ning Academia Europaea liige.

Westi on nimetatud oma generatsiooni väljapaistvaimaks ja produktiivseimaks vanakreeka keele ja kultuuri valdkonnas tegutsevaks õpetlaseks.

Töökäik

West töötas Oxfordi Ülikooli St. John's College'is (1960–1963), University College'is (1963–1974), Londoni Ülikooli Bedford College'is (hiljem Royal Holloway's, Bedford New College'is, 1974–1991) ning 1991. aastast töötanud Oxfordi Ülikooli All Souls College'is, alates 2004. aastast oli ta selle emeriitliige (Emeritus Fellow).

1996. aastal esines ta koos oma abikaasa Stephanie R. Westiga külalislektorina Tartu Ülikoolis.

Teadustöö

West avaldas palju käsitlusi vanakreeka muusika, tragöödia ja lüürika kohta, samuti Kreeka ja muistse Lähis-Ida suhete teemal, šamanismi ja varase kreeka usundi seoste, sh orfismi traditsiooni kohta.
