James Tait Blacki mälestusauhind

(Ümber suunatud leheküljelt James Tait Black Memorial Prize)

James Tait Blacki mälestusauhind on kirjandusauhind, mida antakse igal aastal välja inglise keeles kirjutatud silmapaistnud kirjandusteoste autoreile.

1919. aastal asutatud James Tait Blacki mälestusauhind on Šotimaa vanim kirjandusauhind ja kõrvuti samal aastal asutatud Hawthorndeni auhinnaga ühtlasi Suurbritannia ja Põhja-Iiri Ühendkuningriigi vanim kirjandusauhind.[1] Šotimaa Edinburghi Ülikooli poolt väljaantava auhinna asutas 1919. aastal pr Janet Coats Black oma abikaasa,[2] kirjastuse A & C Black Ltd. partneri, James Tait Blacki mälestuseks.[3] Auhindu antakse kolmes kategoorias: ilukirjandus, biograafia ja näitekirjandus.

Neli Nobeli kirjandusauhinna laureaati – Sir William Golding, Nadine Gordimer, J. M. Coetzee ja Doris Lessing – kuulutati eelnevalt James Tait Blacki mälestusauhinna laureaatideks. Tuntud autorite seas on veel D. H. Lawrence, Arnold Bennett, E. M. Forster, John Buchan, Robert Graves, Graham Greene, Evelyn Waugh, Muriel Spark, J. G. Ballard, Angela Carter, Margaret Drabble ja Salman Rushdie. Hiljem on auhinna saanud veel Graham Swift, Zadie Smith, Martin Amis ja Ian McEwan.
