Mõned näited mõistekasutusest
Esmane otsing annab nt Richard Burthogge'i "An Essay upon Reason, and the Nature of Spirits" (London, 1694): "It is certain that things to us men are ... nothing to us but as they are in our faculties - in our senses, imagination, or mind" ning kasutab sellega seoses väljendit "true resemblance or representation" (lk 561 jj). Fraser kirjutab Berkeleyt summeerides: "'How,' he asks, 'can it be known that things which are perceived (i.e. only the representative ideas) are conformable to those things that are not perceived, or that exist without the mind?' We can test the representations of our imagination by the presentations of sense. But, if what is given in sense too is essentially representative, how can we verify its representations?" (The works of George Berkeley, Volume 1, p. 384, "Life and Letters of Berkeley") Leibnizi järgi oli mõistus eelkõige vis representiva ehk "representeeriv jõud" ning seda arusaama propageerides andis Wolff ta edasi psühholoogistidele nagu Herbart. (Journal of the Hisfom of the Behavioral Sciences 16 (1080): 150-16B. THE HISTORICAL FOUNDATION OF HERBART’S MATHEMATIZATION OF PSYCHOLOGY. DAVID E. LEARY) Ning Theodore Mischel alustab oma artiklit "AFFECTIVE CONCEPTS IN THE PSYCHOLOGY OF J. F. HERBART" (Journal of the History of the Behavioral Sciences, 1967, vol. 3, pp. 262-3) järgneva lõiguga: "My interest in what follows is not in Herbart’s attempt to transform psychology into a “mechanics” of representations (Vorstellungen) as such, but only in the theory of affects to which it 1eads. Since feelings, desires, etc., are not representations, an interpretation of the affects as some sort of relations between representations had to be provided before psychology could claim to be simply the mechanics of representations. Herbart points out that every time we feel something there is something represented in consciousness “so that this particular representation is encapsulated in this particular feeling. ... But we must not suppose that a feeling of X, or a desire for X, is the association of two separate mental contents, i.e. the representation of X and a feeling or desire. For feeling and desire “are not objects being represented, but the manner and way in which something is being represented” -they are not what is being represented, but how it is being represented. (Psychologie als Wissenschaft (1824-25), in Herbart’s Sarnmtliche Werke, Hartenstein edtn., Leipzig, 1850, vol. 6, p. 76)" Ning edasi: "Specifically, a feeling (Gefuhl) is to be understood as ‘(that condition of consciousness in which a representation swings under pressure from opposing forces' (PW 6, p. 76). If the forces are in balance, the represented content will not be affected, but the representation will be “encapsulated” in a specific feeling because certain representations are trying to repress it while others, through fusion, are resisting this pressure. Since feelings are a function of the “pressures” to which a representation is subjected by others, they depend on the stable “representational masses” that are formed in the course of life by one’s social position, occupation, interests, etc. Representational masses are the source of our feelings because a representation which belongs to such a mass is connected with many others and “if it is subjected to pressure, this will be communicated to those [representations] connected with it, and it can maintain itself under their support.” (PW 6, p. 86)" Siin peaks nüüd esialgseks analüüsiks materjali küllaga olema. --82.131.109.135 16. juuli 2017, kell 02:01 (EEST)

Üsna kitsas, aga näitab taas üht mõiste rakendust. --82.131.109.135 17. juuli 2017, kell 23:25 (EEST)
