Parenhüümi moodustavad nn kasvajarakud ehk kasvajaliselt vohava koe rakud. Parenhüüm on aluseks kasvaja histoloogilisel klassifikatsioonil.
=== Strooma ===
Strooma on kasvaja toeks ja selle moodustavad [[veresoon]]erikkad ning [[lümfisoon]]i ja [[närv]]e sisaldavad kiudsidekoed. Strooma on sageli infiltreeritud ka [[lümfotsüüt]]ide ja plasmarakkudega.<ref name="HYPMd" />
Kasvaja konsistents sõltub parenhüümi ja strooma vahekorrast.
== Kasvaja nekrotiseerumine ==
Pahaloomuliste kasvajate kasv on nii kiire, et tihti ei jõua verevarustus kasvajarakke vajalike toitainetega varustada ning seetõttu tekib pahaloomulistes kasvajates [[nekroos]]. Esineb mitmesuguseid kasvaja nekroosi tüüpe: kasvajarakkude kokkupuutel väliskeskkonnaga ja võimaliku anaeroobse infektsiooniga tekib kasvajas ja elundis [[gangreen]] (nt emakavähi korral), nekroosi välja murdumisel kasvajast tekib kasvaja [[haavandumine]], õõneselundis tekib [[mulgustus]], näärmekasvajates (nt [[rinnavähk]], [[eesnäärmevähk]]) tekib [[komedonekroos]].<ref name="uMjuR" />
Healoomulised kasvajad ei nekrotiseeru.

Tänapäeval on selge, et madude kõikide tuvastatud anatoomilis-füsioloogiliste süsteemide rakud on võimelised erinevat tüüpi [[uudismoodustis]]i (97, neist 68 pahaloomulisi kasvajaid) komplekteerima.<ref name="bPFGd" />. Esineb [[adenokartsinoom]]e (nt [[maks]]as), [[sarkoom]]e (fibro-, lümfi-, silelihase- jms) ja pahaloomulisi [[melanoom]]e.
Kasvajate [[metastaseerumine]] maolistel on enamalt jaolt lümfo- ja hematogeenne, osad uudismoodustised on võimelised pahaloomuliste kasvajate geneesiks ka liikide vahel (indutseeritud ''tumorigenesis''-kanadel).
Kõige sagedamini on maolistel ([[boalased]], ''[[Colubridae]]'', [[mürknastiklased]], [[rästiklased]]) diagnoositud lümfisõlmede pahaloomulisi kasvajaid ([[lümfosarkoom]]i), näiteks [[egiptuse kobra]]l, ''[[Lampropeltis getulus getulus]]''<nowiki>'</nowiki>el, ''[[Bitis nasicornis]]''<nowiki>'</nowiki>el ja lümfisõlmedesse [[metastaas|metastaseerunud]] pahaloomulisi kasvajaid ([[roheline anakonda|rohelisel anakondal]] (1969)) jpt.<ref name="
