Ajaloolaste hinnangul tegi Suurbritannia rahulepingus ameeriklastele suuri territoriaalseid järeleandmisi, nähes ette tihedaid kaubandussidemeid Briti saarte ja iseseisvunud kolooniate vahel, millest kujuneks Suurbritannia kaupmeestele väärtuslik eksporditurg. Prantsuse välisminister [[Charles Gravier, krahv Vergennes|krahv Vergennes]] ütles selle kohta hiljem: "Inglased mitte ei sõlmi rahu, vaid ostavad selle."
