The Swedish Wikipedia is often referred to as "the one with all the stubs", the very short articles. In the last weeks, many efforts have been started to improve this. When I compiled statistics, as shown in [[:sv:Användare:LA2#Dagbok|the table on my Swedish user page]], it is clear that Swedish is by far the worst, but the Estonian Wikipedia is almost as bad. As you can see in the table, the Russian Wikipedia has 29 pages that are shorter than 200 bytes. The Finnish Wikipedia, which is four times larger than the Estonian, has 259 pages shorter than 200 bytes. On the Estonian Wikipedia, of the 67792 pages in the article namespace (in the database dump of March 16, 2008), 20610 were redirects and 1815 disambiguation pages, which is quite normal. Of the remaining (67792 - 20610 - 1815 =) 45367 pages, the first percent (453 pages) are shorter than 137 bytes and the next percent (907 pages) are shorter than 167 bytes. No less than 1400 pages or 3 percent are shorter than 200 bytes. Pages shorter than 512 bytes are called "stubs", but these below 200 bytes are called "substubs" because they can't even qualify as stubs. Most often they only contain a primitive definition. In the Estonian Wikipedia, many of them are articles about the flag of a nation, created long ago and never extended, e.g. [[Nigeri lipp]] (115 bytes, created in January 2004).
In the hunt for stubs, it can be very useful to set a personal setting: minu eelistused -> Muud seaded -> Threshold for stub link formatting (bytes) = 512. This will make links display in dark red if the article is shorter than this threshold. Unfortunately, the page [[Eri:ShortPages]] lists both articles and disambiguation (täpsustus) pages, which makes it less useful. Disambiguations are allowed to be short.
